      <Text>&lt;h1&gt;Bibliotheca Hertziana – Max-Planck-Institut für Kunstgeschichte, Roma&lt;/h1&gt;&lt;p&gt;The Bibliotheca Hertziana in Rome is part of the Max-Planck-Gesellschaft’s (MPG) humanities and social sciences section and was opened in 1913 under the auspices of the Kaiser Wilhelm Gesellschaft, which was founded only two years earlier in 1911. The Bibliotheca Hertziana is thus not only one of the oldest institutes of the Max-Planck- Gesellschaft, the successor of the Kaiser Wilhelm Gesellschaft, but also the first to be dedicated to the humanities. Located in the historical center of Rome - in the immediate vicinity of the famous Spanish Steps - the Bibliotheca Hertziana owes its existence to the generosity of Henriette Hertz (1846-1913). She donated the Palazzo Zuccari, complete with a well-stocked specialist library and an extensive photographic collection, to be used as the seat of the research institute. Today, the Bibliotheca Hertziana is led by three directors, whose focus lies on painting, architecture, and Medieval Art. One of the key concerns of the institute is the promotion and support of young scientists; the Bibliotheca Hertziana therefore offers archival and study courses/workshops to young researcher so they can acquire the necessary skills of art historical research. The institute’s outstanding library, its comprehensive photographic collections, and its excellent, research-generated databases as well as its proximity to important objects, monuments, archives, museums, conservation authorities, universities, and other international institutions in Rome make the Bibliotheca Hertziana one of the world’s most renowned research institutes for Italian art history in general and the history of Roman art in particular.&lt;/p&gt;</Text>

On 20 March 1975 it was re-named the France Stele Institute of Art History, after its first head, the leading Slovene art historian of the time and academician Dr. France Stele (1886-1972). Since the foundation of the Scientific Research Centre of the Slovene Academy of Sciences and Arts in 1981 it is one of its institutes.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The institute is the central scientific research institution in the field of art history in Slovenia. The researches are conducted into the fine arts and architecture from the Middle Ages to the mid-20th century, including also the study, publishing and commenting of archival sources for their historiography and interpretation.       <Text>&lt;h1&gt;History of Art at the Edinburgh College of Art&lt;/h1&gt;&lt;p&gt;Edinburgh College of Art can trace its roots back to 1760, with the establishment of the Trustees Drawing Academy of Edinburgh.  It was renamed the Edinburgh College of Art in 1907, and moved in the same year into the Beaux-Arts building that is still the hub of the institution.  In August 2011 it merged with the University of Edinburgh, which itself was founded in 1582.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;VARIE (Visual Arts Research Centre Edinburgh) was founded in 1999 as a bridge between the then independent College of Art and the University.  With the 2011 merger, this function became redundant, and VARIE was incorporated into History of Art in the new ECA, which is now home to one of the UK’s longest-established and largest groups of art and architectural historians, totaling some 30 scholars, all of whom are research active.  This group enjoys close links with the studio practice of both art and film, with an eminent school of music, with a large department of architecture, and with the renowned Talbot Rice Gallery, the University’s contemporary art space, which also administers the University’s research collections of over 1,200 artworks.  The depth of the ECA’s expertise in modern and contemporary art is reflected in the Artist Rooms Research Partnership, collaboration with Tate Modern and National Galleries of Scotland.  The ECA hosts the highly respected online journal Art in Translation, which makes texts written in a variety of languages accessible to English language researchers and explores wider questions around multilingual visual cultures. The current editor of the journal Art History is also one of the art history team.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;History of Art at Edinburgh has a remarkable range of specialist research expertise, from non-Western art (China, the Islamic World, Japan, India) to medieval, renaissance, early modern, modern and contemporary art. Modelled after the Fick Art Reference Library by its first director, Josep Gudiol (1904-1985), it provides scholars and students with a photo archive of over 360.000 negatives (including those made by Arxiu Mas between 1900 and 1941) plus some 100.000 digital images and a specialized library with more than 30.000 titles.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;It is part of a private foundation which also has the aim of preserving the house built by the father of the founder, Antoni Amatller (1851-1910), one of the leading chocolate makers in Spain in his times, a widely travelled amateur photographer and art collector. The casa Amatller, built in 1898-1900 under the direction of architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch, is one of the most relevant art nouveau buildings of Barcelona, with the original furniture and decoration, including the collection of some 750 glass pieces covering more than 3.000 years of its history.

Founded in 1897 on the private initiative of a group of independent scholars, it has been under the auspices of the Max Planck Society since 2002. Approximately sixty scholars are currently employed at the Institute, which is run by two directors, and the promotion of international young scientists and academics is high on its internal agenda. In addition to numerous individual research projects, those funded by third parties and a multiplicity of international collaboration with universities, museums and research institutes, Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz provides a platform for larger long- and medium-term projects whose subject matter ranges from Late Antiquity to the Modern Age. Its predecessor was the Documentation Center for Art History operating within the framework of the Ministry for Culture. To further that mission it is committed to being both a convening space for advanced research in the visual arts and a vibrant centre of engagement with contemporary art and ideas for a public beyond the University.       <Text>&lt;h1&gt;Rubenianum, Antwerpen&lt;/h1&gt;&lt;p&gt;Founded in 1963 in Antwerp, the Rubenianum aims to further the study of the visual arts of the Southern Netherlands in the 16th and the 17th centuries, a period that witnessed the flourishing of such artists as Bruegel, Rubens, Van Dyck, Jordaens, Teniers and their contemporaries. The Rubenianum’s holdings include its art historical library, photographic documentation, and numerous archives of prominent scholars in the field. The institute plays a fundamental role in publishing the Corpus Rubenianum Ludwig Burchard (1968-), the largest monographic series ever devoted to a single artist.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The Rubenianum supports research through its public reading room, fellowships, and advisory services, as well as through scholarly conferences and workshops. The Rubenianum collaborates with the RKD in making its visual holdings accessible online. The largest and most active art-historical research institute in Flanders, serving an international research community, the Rubenianum is managed by the local city government of Antwerp.&lt;/p&gt;</Text>

Its Paris Center is the nexus of the foundation’s grant and fellowship programs in Europe, which include support to exhibitions as well as academic programs. The Paris Center hosts an international community of art historians and scholars and provides a regular public forum of dialogues, lectures, and symposia on the art and visual culture of the United States. It houses the Terra Foundation Library of American Art, the only research library in Europe devoted exclusively to the artistic and cultural history of visual arts of the United States, with a special emphasis on transnational artistic exchange. The Paris Center partners with institutions across Europe and offers research and teaching fellowships, publication grants and prizes, as well as residencies in Giverny, France to enable continued engagement with American art and scholarship. The core activities are research, documentation, the dissemination of knowledge and the provision of services in the world of the fine arts. The focus lies with the production of art in Switzerland from the Middle Ages until the present day.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The headquarters of SIK-ISEA are housed in Villa Bleuler in Zurich, built in 1885–1888 to a design by Alfred Friedrich Bluntschli. The Institute maintaines a branch in francophone Switzerland at the University of Lausanne and an «Ufficio di contatto» for Italian-speaking Switzerland at the Museo Vincenzo Vela in Ligornetto.&lt;/p&gt;</Text>

      <Text>&lt;h1&gt;Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte, München&lt;/h1&gt;&lt;p&gt;After its foundation in 1946, the Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte (ZI), Munich, started its activities in 1947. Since then it resides in the former "Administration building" of the National Socialist party near Königsplatz. After the end of the war, the United States Military Government had established a central collecting point to repatriate the art of works carried off by the National Socialists.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The ZI, itself defining as a place of academic exchange and likewise as a platform for international encounters, is the only art historical research institute of nation wide significance in Germany. It organises lectures and symposia and edits various publications, as there is the Reallexikon zur Deutschen Kunstgeschichte and the Kunstchronik, an art history journal, that features articles on museum matters and on the preservation of monuments and historic buildings.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Thanks to its large holdings that can be consulted with free shelf access as well as its photograph collection, the ZI offers excellent conditions for research, unrivalled in Germany.&lt;/p&gt;</Text>
