Description:
Institut für kunst- und musikhistorische Forschungen The Institute for History of Art and Musicology (IKM) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences is primarily concerned with the history of visual art and music in Austria and Central Europe, especially focussing on their European cross-linkage. Without losing the methodological individuality and the core expertise of both fields, the IKM cultivates an utterly unique profile in connecting disciplinary research projects with national as well as international recognition on the one hand and in developing interdisciplinary as well as transdisciplinary research approaches on the other. The disciplinary approach yields publication series regarding the Viennese “Hofburg”, the “Residenzforschung”, and medieval glass painting as well as critical editions and historical documentations of some major Austrian composers and the online edition of the “Oesterreichisches Musiklexikon”. The interdisciplinary approach focuses on specific topics – artistic representation, history of science, musical iconography – that shall be developed further, and established as main areas of research.
