Description:
Instituto de História da Arte
Instituto de História da Arte (IHA) is based at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Universidade Nova de Lisboa. IHA’s approach to art history covers a broad chronological spectrum, from Antiquity to contemporary art. In a permanent dialogue with other disciplines, IHA’s work engages in the general debates occurring within art history (Eurocentric narratives; gender and postcolonial perspectives; high art/low art and centre/periphery divides; conservation, mediation and curatorial practices; current state of art criticism; re-reading of modernism; art and politics in contemporary art practices; challenges faced by urban regeneration and heritage). IHA promotes the critical exploration of artistic practices, theories and discourses produced in Portugal but also their historical and present relations with geographical and cultural contexts across the globe. To this end the Institute actively fosters its researchers’ involvement in international projects and networks.
